Registration for the Beethoven Composition Festival is now OPEN!
Welcome to VLMTA-NC's inaugural Beethoven Composition Festival! This is a non-competitive event hosted each spring for all levels of student composers. Registration opening date will be announced soon!
Recordings of examples of compositions by students in each level are listed below. We have also included some FAQ's below as well. For any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our festival coordinator, Diane Higgins. Her contact information is listed in the festival guidelines document linked below.
Please note that for this event, the teacher, the student or the place of instruction must be located in North Carolina.

Beethoven Composition Festival Recital: Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM, via Google Meet or Zoom
♫ Students will create a YouTube video performance of their composition for the Recital.
♫ At the beginning of the video, students are invited to say 2 or 3 sentences about their music.
♫ Students may perform either by memory or with their composition music.
♫ Remember to dress nicely and bow with a smile after your composition performance!

Yes! We encourage students to create a title page and cover with beautiful art of their own creation! This page needs to include the student's name and composition title. Please submit the title page in a pdf form with the composition registration.
For the 2025-2026 season, all videos must be submitted via the provided instructions you received when registering. The deadline for submission is Monday, February 9, 2026 at 9:00pm Eastern Standard Time.
The Beethoven Composition Festival recital date will be during VLMTA's regular monthly meeting (virtual) on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10:00am EST. The meeting link is on the home page of this website. Students, their families and friends, and other guests are very welcome to attend! We will be sharing the YouTube video performances submitted for the festival. There will also be a recording available on this page after the meeting date.

The eligibility requirements for participation are as follows:
Teachers must hold current membership with MTNA, NCMTA, and VLMTA-NC
Non-member teachers must pay a teacher entry fee of $40.00. This fee will allow a teacher to enter one or more students.
The teacher, the student, or the place of instruction must be located in North Carolina.
Students must study with a teacher who is affiliated with MTNA, NCMTA, and VLMTA-NC or pay a non-member entry fee.
